What is the rule of nines?


Rule of nine is the quick method to estimate the percentage of burn in the body. It was advocated by Wallace(1951). In this rule, the human body is divided into sections by multiples of 9%.

  • Obese people: rule of nine may not be accurate for obese people
  • Children: children have different head to body ratio than adults. We should modify the rule of nines to apply on children.
